Wilson, NC. — The Emmanuel College Men's Tennis Team traveled to North Carolina to play Barton College. Unfortunately, the Lions lost against the Dogs after a good fight on every court.
After an easy win against Shorter University a few days earlier, the Lions were really confident and were ready to fight for every single point. Unfortunately, the men's team had to face a really strong team who managed to dominate our Lions 5-2.
#3 doubles composed by Juan Camilo Burgos and Kornel Kimagzewski did not have the same chances to dominate the game as they faced a really solid opponent who did not let the Lions impose their games. The EC duo lost 6-1
#2 doubles composed by Lucas Sasaki and Jorge Canadas had a really tough match as the score was tight the whole time. Unfortunately, the duo did not manage to conclude the match and lost 6-4.
The Lions were now down by 1-0 after the doubles.
Playing number 2 singles was the freshman Thembokwakhe Makhanya who played a really good match as he managed to keep the score tight against a solid opponent. Thanks to good decisions and patience on important points, the freshman won 6-4 6-4.
Singles #3 was played by another freshman Kornel Kimagzewski who had a tough beginning of the match as he could not find his rhythm and lost the first et 6-0. In the second set, Kornel finally managed to find solutions by staying tight in the score the whole time and went to the tie break. Unfortunately, Kimagzewski couldn't conclude the match and lost 8-6 in the tie break of the second set.
#5 singles was played by Jorge Canadas who also had a tough match. After losing the first set 7-5, Canadas consistency was not enough to come back in the score and lost the second set 6-4.
Singles #1 was played by junior Juan Carlos Romero who could not find solutions in the first set as he dropped it 6-1. The second set was a different scenario, as Romero completely changed his game by making smarter decisions which made him win the second set in the tie break. Juan Carlos kept the same strategy for the third set but did not manage to close the score and lost 6-4 in the third.
Lucas Sasaki was playing #4 and did a really good come back. After losing the first set 6-3, Sasaki used a different strategy to bother opponent which worked and made him win the second set 6-2. For the third set Lucas was using the same game style, even if his opponent was getting used to it, Sasaki still conclude the match by a 3-6 6-2 6-4 win.
#6 singles was played by the senior Enrique Alcacer who had a different first set than his teammates as he had a really good start and won the first set 6-1. In the second set, Enrique's opponent came back stronger and used a game style that bothered our Lion. Alcacer lost the second set 7-5. Unfortunately for our senior, his opponent kept the same strategy and dominated Enrique 6-4 in the third set.
The Lions finished the day with a 5-2 loss against Baton College.
EC Tennis Team will be hosting their next match Tuesday, April 2nd against Georgia College.
