ASC Swimmer of the Week – Camilo Mendoza

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The male Swimmer of the Week for the Appalachian Swimming Conference for the week ending November 23, 2014:

Mendoza had four first-place finishes as Lions competed at theBrenau Invitational. Mendoza swept the IM events by finishing in 1:54.01 and 4:04.65 in the 200 and 400 respectively. He would go on to show his versatility by winning the 200 Freestyle in 1:44.70 and the 200 Breaststroke in 2:07.64. All four of these swims are new Emmanuel College school records. Mendoza also led off the 200 Freestyle Relay in 21.94 (1:32.33, 7th), he split 21.14 on the Freestyle leg of the 200 Medley Relay (1:38.96, 4th place), he led off the 800 Freestyle Relay in 1:46.04 (7:34.26, 5th place), and split 47.52 on the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:22.92, 6th). Camilo currently ranks in the conference in the following events: 50 Freestyle (9th), 200 Freestyle (2nd), 200 Breast (2nd), 200 IM (1st), and the 400 IM (1st).

"This marks the 5th EC swimmer to earn "ASC Swimmer of the Week" this semester. A testament to the team's hard work and dedication to our swimming program" commented Head Coach, Allen Gilchrest.

Emmanuel College swimming is in its first season as a member of the Appalachian Swimming Conference. Each week, coaches nominate one male and one female athlete. Coaches then vote on who to select as "Swimmer of the Week". There are 15 teams in the ASC including: Brenau, Wheeling Jesuit, Mars Hill, Urbana, Saint Andrews, Union, Asbury, WVU Tech, Notre Dame, Alderson Broaddus, Emmanuel, Milligan, King, Warren Wilson, LaGrange.
