MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Emmanuel College men's soccer team fell to #1 ranked conference opponent Chowan University 2-1 in overtime on Saturday afternoon. This loss brings the Lions record to 8-6-1 overall, 4-4-1 in conference.
The Lions were heavily outshot in the first half with only 2 attempts compared to 14 from Chowan. Despite the difference, EC goalkeeper Giuliano Palma recorded two saves to prevent the Hawks from scoring in the opening half.
Action continued into the second half after a scoreless 45 minutes of play. In the fifty-seventh minute, Chowan's Harrison Ardron would score to put the Hawks up 1-0. Another 30 minutes would pass without any shots from the Lions. Finally, with less than two minutes left on the clock, Emmanuel's Sebastian La Cava-Abudoj would capitalize on a setup from Kevin Fitzgerald to tie up the game and force the match into overtime.
In overtime play, Jeffrey Appiah would fall short of snagging the golden goal with an unsuccessful header. In the seventh minute of overtime, Chowan's Mitchell Levi Lewis would score to secure the win for the Hawks.
This concludes regular season play for the Lions. Men's soccer will continue action next Saturday. November 9th in the Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals. Brackets will be determined when conference competition concludes on Monday.
