Men's Soccer Fall to Chowan In Conference Carolinas Semi-finals

GAFFNEY, S.C. - The #7 Emmanuel College men's soccer team took on #3 Chowan University in the Conference Carolina's semi-finals on Thursday night. After upsetting #2 Belmont Abbey on Tuesday, the Lions were hoping for another underdog victory. To Emmanuel's dismay, it was their opponent who came out on top, defeating the Lions 3-1.

How it Happened:

The only goal in the first half came when Chowan's Harry Ardron scored off of a short though ball along the baseline from teammate Harry Garstang.

Twenty-two minutes into the second half, Emmanuel's Blair Springhall blasted the ball off a defender and crossbar before finding the goal. Jeremy Gwaltney had the assist.

The Hawks would retaliate six minutes later with a header from Trevin Myers off a corner kick.

Chowan went on to advance their lead with just over five minutes remaining when Mitchell Levi Lewis scored in the top left corner of the goal.

This loss brings the Lions season to an end. The men finished 8-9-1 overall and 4-5-1 in conference, while advancing to the Conference Carolinas semi-finals in just their first season of being eligible.

Junior Danny McKerchar Cameron was named to the All-Conference Third Team after a standout performance this season. Cameron led the Lions in goals and tied for 3rd in the conference with 9. Cameron was also tied for third highest in points in the conference with 20.

Congratulations to the Emmanuel College men's soccer team on another successful season!
