Men’s Soccer Opens Season With Tough Loss to Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tn. - The Emmanuel College men's soccer team dropped their season opener 1-0 to the Pioneers.

Tonights starting eleven featured three freshmen (Nils Nuenemann, Will Fraser-Gray, and Grant Farrell.) Sixteen players saw the field during the full 90 minutes of play.

Blair Springhall led the Lions with two of the teams four shots on goal. The opposing Pioneers commanded more opportunity with nine.

In the first period, Senior goalkeeper Andy Dunnett racked up four saves before Tusculum's Oscar Rubio Jiminez fired a long cross passed the keeper, bringing the score to 1-0.

The Lions narrowly missed their chance to tie the match when Junior Danny McKerchar Cameron bounced a right side shot off the crossbar.

When returning from half time, Emmanuel commenced with the first strike from Freshman Will Fraser-Gray, but was unable to score. The match stayed at 1-0 for the remainder of the night.

Goalkeeper Andy Dunnett tallied 7 saves.

The Lions will have one day of rest before taking on Mars Hill University on Sunday, Sept. 2 on the road. Kickoff is set for 2pm.
