WILSON, N.C. – The Emmanuel College men's lacrosse team dropped a road contest to the Barton Bulldogs 19-14.
The Lions put the first tally on the board with an early goal from Travis Brave Heart off a clearing pass from Alec Ammons. Within two-minutes, the Bulldogs were back to even. Kylon Collins scored one for EC, but Barton once again leveled the score. Shamaz Durrant and Matthew Mitchell scored back-to-back goals for Emmanuel to go up with seven minutes left in the first quarter. A three goal run for Barton would give them the edge 5-4 heading into the second quarter.
After more than three-minutes into the second quarter, Barton added again to their lead. Mitchell and Durrant would go back-to-back again to even the score at 6-6 with just shy of nine-minutes left in the half. The offense clicked for the Bulldogs as they scored four straight to go into halftime 10-6.
Coming out of the break, Allan Velasquez scored one for the Lions. A five goal run for Barton would send the gap to 15-7 with a minute left in the third quarter. In the final minute of the third, Mitchell and Durrant scored back-to-back for the third time. The Lions trailed 15-9 heading into the final quarter.
Barton scored to start off the fourth, but the Lions scored three straight with goals from Madison Hunter Phillips, Travis Brave Heart, and Matthew Mitchell each claiming one in the fourth. The Bulldogs copied with a three goal run of their own to regain a commanding lead. In the final minute of the game, Travis Brave Heart and Matthew Mitchell each scored to close the final score to 19-14 in favor of the Bulldogs.
Matthew Mitchell scored five goals against Barton.

EC moved the ball well down field going 18 of 20 on clearing against the Bulldogs.
Home fans will get to see the Lions back in action on their home field against North Greenville on Saturday, April 6.
