ROME, Ga. – The Emmanuel College men's lacrosse team took down the Hawks of Shorter University in a decisive 19-6 victory.
It was an early start for EC as they jumped ahead 4-1 in the opening quarter. Lance Olson notched a pair to bookend the first 15-minutes.
Olson's day was just getting started as he was first on the board in the second quarter as well. The Lions would go man-down, and Shorter would capitalize on the extra man opportunity putting the score to 5-2. Matthew Mitchell would score a pair to extend the lead for the Lions, followed by an assist to Allan Velasquez. Madison Hunter, Travis Brave Heart, and Mitchell would each find the net to put Emmanuel up 11-3 at the halftime break.
Velazquez would open the scoring for the second half, scoring back-to-back goals to finalize his hat-trick and put EC up by 10. Shamaz Durrant claimed his first of the game with eight and change left on the clock in the third. Olson would score shortly after closing out his scoring for the day at four goals. The Lions were coasting into the fourth with a 15-4 lead.
Velazquez would again take the lead in scoring as he notched his fifth goal of the game. A string of man-up goals would put EC up 19-4 as Kylon Collins, Shamaz Durrant, and Travis Brave Heart would all score. A pair of last effort goals for Shorter would not be enough as the Lions took the game 19-6.
EC is back in action on February 27 at Newberry College.
