Lions Fall to Conference Foe Belmont Abbey

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Belmont Abbey Crusaders traveled from Belmont, NC to face the Emmanuel College Lions for a conference match-up.

The crusaders came out hot in the first quarter with six unanswered goals against the lions. Abbey's Liam Osborne helped the crusaders get a lead with a hat trick in the first ten minutes. Lance Olson fought back with an assist from Tyler Machado scoring the first goal for the lions with 4:50 left in the first quarter. The crusaders went on to score three more to end the first quarter with a score of 9-1.

The lions failed to put any points on the board in the second and third quarter. Belmont Abbey stayed active throughout these quarters ending the third quarter with a score of 17-1.

The lions arose in the fourth quarter by scoring the first goal when the clock started back. Alex Stull scored two, and Lance Olson and Tyler Machado scored on a piece. But, the crusaders fought back, answering each of their goals.

Abbey's Parker Hagood scored the final goal of the game making the final score 20-5, Belmont Abbey.

The lions ended the game with 24 turnovers, 23 shot attempts, and 25 ground balls. Tyler Machado went 4-8 in faceoffs and Ethan Brundage had 9 saves.

Tyler Machado, Lance Olson, and Alex Stull put points on the board to give them five for the game.

The Lions will take on Lees-McRae on Saturday, April 7th at in Banner Elk, Nc. At 2 p.m.
