FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College men's basketball team remain undefeated in conference play after a thrilling 84-83 victory over King University on Saturday afternoon. This win bring the Lion's record to 17-6 overall, 10-0 conference.
The Lions had a solid performance in the first half, shooting 53.8% from the floor, including 63.6% from the three-point line. Eight Lions pitched in points to give Emmanuel a 44-38 lead by halftime.
Upon returning to the second half, Emmanuel continued to drain their shots, bringing their lead all the way up to 17 with just over eleven minutes left. Finally, the Tornado began to rally back, putting up 18 points compared to the Lions 2 and bringing their deficit down to just 1 point. Senior Austin Greene would put up another layup followed by a free throw from Freshman Kyler Ingram. King returned the favor with back to back layups to tie up the game.
King would steal the lead again and retain control for most of the remaining three minutes. With 18 seconds left on the clock, the Lions found themselves down 81-83. In a pivotal play with just twelve seconds left on the clock, Greene drove the ball down the court and found his way to the basket, scoring a layup and drawing a foul. Greene sunk his bonus point to give the Lions the victory, 84-83.
Senior Kendrick Colvin led the team with 16 points and 8 rebounds.
Next up, the Lions will take on conference opponent Erskine College on Tuesday, January 29th in Due West, South Carolina.
