Emmanuel Offense Proves too Much for Truett-McConnell

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College baseball team hosted the TMU Bears on Tuesday afternoon.

In the top of the first Emmanuel starter Braden Henle was able to work out of a jam. After hitting the first two batters he was able to escape the inning with no runs scoring. In the Home half of the inning lead off man Brock Baughcum and Jake Nichols hit back to back singles before a double play left a runner at third base with two outs. The Lions would not be denied the scoring opportunity as Jorge Villalobos drove a double to the right center field gap and Kyle Gaura blasted his third home run of the season over the scoreboard in left center. Truett would take the lead in the top of the second inning with four two out runs of their own capped off with a two run homer to right field. The lead would be short lived as Baughcum delivered a two out RBI single to tie the game at four in the bottom of the second. Reliever Trey Campbell worked out of jams in the third and fourth innings to keep the Bears offense at bay and give the Lion offense a chance to blow the game open. Quinn Tomasino lead off the bottom of the third with a sharp single to right field and was followed a batter later by a Gaura single. With two runners on, Jacob Saulnier sent his first double of the game screaming past the right fielder to score both runners. Dustin McNicholl then drove in Saulnier with a long home run into the trees over the scoreboard. The Lion offense would post another four run inning in the fourth to extend the lead to 12-4. Campbell continued to cruise as he sat six batters in a row down in his last two innings of work. In the top of the seventh Truett pushed across two runs on two hits before Daniel Hawthorne was able to end the threat with a strike out. A lead off walk to Stephen Skeggs would spark the Lion seventh as he came around to score on Brock Thompson's single to right. After a walk to Gaura and a wild pitch put runners at second and third Saulnier connected on his second double of the game pushing across the final two runs of the game. The game was ended on the 10-Run Rule in the bottom of the seventh as Trey Campbell picked up his second win of the season.
