Charlotte, NC - - The 2018-19 Conference Carolinas Men's Swimming Championship concluded on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte, N.C. Emmanuel College finished 2nd in the men's swimming championship, to Barton College, with a team score of 732 points.
The Lions finished 1st in 3 out of 6 events in tonight's finals, earning 3 more individual conference champions and 6 more conference runner ups.
In the 1650 free, Senior Captain Stanislas Raczynski finished 1st (15:40.63) in NCAA qualifying and conference record time.
In the 200 back, Hunter Hayes finished 2nd (1:53.24), Alasdair McGhee finished 3rd (1:54.24), Cole Brubaker finished 9th (2:07.08) and Harrison Andrews finished 10th (2:13.50)
In the 100 free, Alex Sobers finished 1st (43.65) in EC school record, conference record, and NCAA qualifying time. Thiago Rosa finished 2nd (44.01) in NCAA qualifying time. Senior Captain Rafael Mendes finished 4th (46.32) and Seth Campbell finished 15th (50.92)
In the 200 breast, Joao Santos finished 1st (2:02.76), Theo Courteaux finished 2nd (2:05.68), Robert Jones finished 6th (2:11.07) and Simon Roberts finished 11th (2:29.32)
In the 200 fly, Senior Captain Juan Sebastian Riano finished 3rd (1:58.01) and David Brown finished 7th (2:07.35)
In the 400 free relay, the A relay (Santos, Rosa, Mendes, Sobers) finished 1st (2:57.90) in a new EC school record, new Conference record, and NCAA national qualifying time.
Head Swim Coach, Allen Gilchrest, commented; "15 Lions competing over 4 days, in 7 different sessions, in 19 different events, with a total of 65 swims. Our guys had a strong conference-champs, coming up just short of the team title, while earning a trip to the NCAA Div. II National Championships in 13 events. We give God the Glory!"
