MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Friday evening the Lions raced at the Georgia College Bobcat Invite in Millidgeville, Georgia. The ladies started the evening off with their 6k run and Makayla Hewell got out to a strong pace with the lead pack of the race. With around 1k to go, Makayla was battling for first, but was edged by the host team runner, Katherine Yost, and crossed the line in a strong second. Makayla smashed her previous best in the 6k by nearly 90 seconds, finishing with a time of 22:17.
The rest of the team stepped up and ran really well, also. Alex Quarles finished second for the ladies, besting her previous 6k time by nearly 45 seconds. Kaylynn Rainey had a very strong performance, running nearly two minutes faster than her 6k earlier this year. Carli Broome and Erin Putnam shaved over thirty seconds and nearly two minutes respectively off their previous times. Rounding out the top seven, Ashley George and Brandi Nash competed very well and moved up the pack throughout the race, putting their first 6k of the season in the books.
"I'm happy to see how the ladies really competed well today. They chose to be tough and fight through the pain of racing to not only better their times, but also to finish well against competition we've seen earlier this season, said Coach Hall."
With this meet, the Lions have wrapped up the regular season and have a few weeks to train until the NCCAA South Region meet at the end of October.
