Women's Wrestling Wraps Up NWCA National Duals With 3rd Place Finish

Fort Wayne, IN. - The Emmanuel College Women's Wrestling Team wrapped up the NWCA National Duals on Friday with a 3rd place overall finish.

Starting the tournament off, the Lions easily outwrestled Missouri Valley 33 to 11 before taking on King University. Against the Tornado, Emmanuel had 7 individual wins to defeat them 29-15 and end the night 2-0.

Day two saw the Lions with a very tough matchup against Campbellsville University for the semi-final match. After 4 straight wins from EC wrestlers Iesha Washington, Cody Pfau, Maria Vidales, and Victoria Gutierez, the Lions looked to be in a good place. Unfortunately, the eventual National Dual Champions would go on a run themselves to defeat Emmanuel in the next 6 matchups and win with a final score of 26-18.

The ladies wrapped up the tournament with a 23-21 win against Wayland Baptist to claim 3rd place.

Coach Davis had the following to say about his team, "The girls wrestled hard all weekend and every match. We are proud of them for coming together as a team and fighting for each other. We still have things to work on and improve before the national tournament in February but this was a nice performance."

The next event for the ladies will be at home on Tuesday, Jan. 9th against King University. Please come out and show some support for the team!
