Women's Volleyball Goes 2-0 on Opening Day Of NCCAA Nationals

KISSIMMEE, FL. - The Emmanuel College Women's Volleyball Team started off the NCCAA National Tournament with back to back wins on Thursday.

The #4 ranked Lions kicked off the Tournament at 10:00am with a game against #8 Grace College. Making quick work of the Lancers, Emmanuel had a clean sweep of 25-20, 25-20, 25-23. The ladies played well with a team hitting percentage of .172, including 11 kills from Jessica Gray (#13) and 10 kills from Julie de Blanck (#9). This game proved to be a confidence booster as Emmanuel carried the momentum forward into their next match.

At 2:00pm, the Lions took on #5 McMurry University. While the War Hawks proved to be a more formidable foe, the Lions only dropped 1 set to win the match 25-22, 22-25, 25-19, 25-16. The ladies had an even more impressive match, with a .220 hitting percentage and 7 service aces. Libero Aysha Avery (#21) tallied 25 digs for the Lions while Jessica Gray, Julie de Blanck, and Guro Key Froberg had 14, 14, and 13 kills respectively.

The ladies will take the rest of the day off then resume action tomorrow at 12:00pm where they will take on #9 Bluefield College.
