Lady Lions Defeat NGU on "Dig Pink" Night

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College Lady Lions took on conference foe North Greenville University for Friday night's match.

Tonight was a special night, as they honored breast cancer survivors for the dig pink event. Among the honorees tonight were faculty athletic advisor for women's volleyball, Nancy Cobb as well as the mother of women's volleyball player Ansley McClain (#2).

Set one started off with lots of energy from both teams. Emmanuel tallied 9 kills and 4 blocks, but fell short 23-25.

Set two was very similar, with a back and forth run to the final points. At 24-24, Jessica Gray (#13) had a hard cross court kill to give the Lions match point. On the final play of the set, Julie de Blanck (#9) set Jessica Gray (#13) for the kill.

Set three was no different from the previous sets. The ladies fought way past the standard 25 points. At 29-28, emmanuel was leading. Another long rally led to a final attempt by Guro Key Froberg (#3) who smashed another one down to win the set and take the lead 2-1.

The fourth set was all Emmanuel as the lions powered through the Crusaders defense. Julie de Blanck (#9) and Jessica Gray (#13) continued to rack up points. The ladies ended in style with an ace from Jenna Woodruff (#23).

The lions were led by Julie de Blanck (#9) with 19 kills and 5 blocks and Jessica Gray (#13) with 18 kills. Aysha Avery (#21) tallied 23 digs and Mia McKensey (#14) had 8 blocks.
