Spartanburg, SC. — The Emmanuel College Women's Tennis Team was back on the road to face Converse College. After a good fight on every single court, the Lady Lions defeated the Valkyries 5-2.
After a week without playing matches because of the bad weather, the Lady Lions were finally back on the courts and were ready to face the Valkyries. The EC women's team successfully filled their mission by winning their 9th match in the Conference Carolinas.
Playing #3 doubles was Katharina Kiderlen and Marta Rozados who had some difficulties to find their rhythm against solid opponents. Sadly, the duo Kiderlen/Rozados dropped their match 6-3.
#2 doubles was composed by Pearllan Cipriano and Maria Raich who did not give a lot of opportunities to their opponent to impose their game. Cipriano and Raich defeated their opponent with a quick 6-1.
Doubles #1 composed by seniors Chloe O'Connor and Fantine Botella had a slow beginning as they started the match 3-0 down. Thanks to a lot of consistency and aggressive game at the net, the seniors came back to the score and kept the score really tight until the end which led them to play a tie break. Thanks to a lot of pouching from O'Connor and offensive game at the baseline from Botella, the duo closed the tiebreak 8-6.
After the doubles, the Lady Lions were now up 1-0.
Playing #3 singles was the junior Maria Raich who played a really solid game as she did not give any chance to her opponent to score. Raich quickly closed the match by winning 6-0 6-0.
#4 singles was played by another junior Victoria Silva who played a really smart and aggressive game to dominate her opponent. Silva defeated her opponent 6-2 6-3.
Singles #5 was played by the freshman Lauren Castillon who played a good match as she used her best shots to dominate her opponent. Thanks to a lot of aggressive backhands and offensive volleys at the net, Castillon closed the match with a 6-3 6-4 win.
Playing #1 singles was the senior Fantine Botella who had a slow beginning as she was down 5-1 in the first set until she decided to change her game style. By using a more aggressive style, Botella came back and won the first set 7-5. Keeping the same strategy, Fantine closed the second set with a quick 6-3.
#2 singles was played by the senior Pearllan Cipriano who struggled to impose her game style as she was facing a really consistent opponent. Unfortunately, Cipriano did not manage to find solutions and dropped her match 6-3 6-0.
Singles #6 was played by the senior Katharina Kiderlen who struggled to find solutions in the beginning as she dropped the first set 6-3. By using a more consistent style, Kiderlen managed to stay tight in the second set which led her to win it in the tie break. As the match was already clinched in favor of the Lady Lions, Katharina was playing a super tiebreaker for the third set. Unfortunately, Kiderlen did not manage to close the match and lost 10-4 in the third.
The Lady Lions finished the day with a 5-2 win against Converse College.
EC's Women's Tennis Team will be back on the road Wednesday, April 17th to face Limestone College for their last conference match.
