Lady Lions defeat Crusaders for fourth straight conference win!

Tigerville, SC – The Emmanuel College Women's Tennis Team Traveled to the home of the North Greenville Crusaders for a Conference Carolinas match.

The Doubles matches were kicked off but the Crusaders looked better on courts #1 and #2 but the Lady Lions were able to grab a quick 8-2 win on court #3 formed by Cipriano/Silva. Even after starting the match with a break behind on court #1 with a 3-game deficit, the doubles formed by O'Connor/Botella started to press more during the points, giving Emmanuel the second point of the day by 8-4. On court #2, Kiderlen/Raich had to fight a lot and come back from a break behind at 1-4. They also had to save an important break point with a spectacular defense from Kderlen and a forehand winner from Raich at 6-6. The match went to a tense tie-breaker but EC was able to administrate the advantage with an early mini-break to close the match 8-7 (7-3).

With a 3-0 lead after doubles, the Lady Lions only needed two more wins to clinch the match, but the Crusaders started to fight back by winning courts #3 and #4. With a set down on courts #1 and a tight match on #2, the Sophomore, Chloe O'Connor gave Emmanuel a fourth point with a 6-3 6-4 win.  The Crusaders reduced the difference by winning on court #5 and the score was now 4-3, favoring Emmanuel. On court #2 Pearllan Cipriano won the first set but the Crusader got the equalizer, taking the match to a long third set. CIrpiano started the final partial better and kept defending and running around the court, trying to find a way to counter attack and finally earning a break for 2-1. Even after dropping the break, Pearllan did not lose her determination and quickly closed the final set by 6-2 .The Sophomore, Fantine Botella dropped the first set by 6-1 due to consecutive unforced errors from the baseline. After starting the second set with two breaks down and the score now 1-4, Fantine started her impressive come back and after finding enough space to use her forehand more often, Botella played well enough to win 5 straight games and the set by 6-4. The third set was marked by ups and downs for both sides and it was only decided by minimal details at the very end by 7-5 for the Lady Lion.

With the win, Emmanuel moves to 4 conference wins this season. The season will keep moving forward with Emmanuel serving as hosts to Belmont Abbey College this Friday. First Serve is scheduled for 10AM!
