Emmanuel downs Lees McRae in conference match!

Banner Elk, NC – The Emmanuel Women's Tennis Team traveled to Lees McRae College after a heartbreaking loss against King 24 hours earlier.

The Doubles play started with a second straight win from Botella/Cipriano in 2 days. The freshmen duo played smart points and used the mistakes from the opponents to get a late break, but key break, to jump ahead and close the match 8-5. Emmanuel had a much easier life on court #2 with O'Connor/Kiderlen dominating most of the points and finishing the points early. The German/Zimbabwean team closed the Pro-Set 8-2 without many issues. The doubles #3 was much closer and a match full of possibilities. After trailing 5-1, the Lions found a way to get back in the game and tied everything with hard fought points. After some long games, the match finally reached the tie-break. After two close shots from the Lions, Lees McRae Bobcats finally earned their first point of the day by closing the tie-breaker 7-5.

In singles plays, Pearllan Cipriano cruised for a 6-3 6-0 win by forcing her opponent to make mistakes and after capturing the first set, the Lions had little problems to close the match without dropping a game. On court #6 Kaylee Kirby played longer points but she faced a more consistent player who was wiling to grind for every point. The Bobcat capture a second point with a 6-2 6-1 win. The next point from the visitors came from Chloe O'Connor who rally and used the angles and forced her opponent to move around the court to win a 6-4 7-5 battle. Fantine Botella came to the top seeded court and did not disappoint her team by dispatching her foe by 6-0 6-3 with fast inside-out forehands, mixed with several drop shots. Katharina Kiderlen, who came from a great 3-set win the day before, handled the game well by using her forehand to clear her path to a 6-2 6-3 win. Last but no least, Abi Muesse hit drop shots, slices, and great first serve to clinch the match with a 6-0 6-1 win.

The Lady Lions will be back in action at the EC home courts where they will host Johnson University. The first serve for the Senior Day Event is set to 1PM.
