Dahlonega, GA – Emmanuel traveled to the campus of the University of North Georgia to face a NCAA Division II foe, the University of Illinois – Springfield. The lions started the day strong with two quick wins in doubles by the hands of Cipriano/Botella at #1 by 8-2 and Kiderlen/O'Connor at #2 by 8-4.
With the overall score now 2-1 after doubles, Fantine Botella, Katharina Kiderlen, Pearllan Cipriano, and Chloe O'Connor kicked off singles play against the stars. The freshman from England, Pearllan Cipriano gave the lady lions the first point in singles play by defeating Jasmin Morgan by 6-3 6-2, followed by Chloe O'Connor with a win by 6-3 6-3.
Fantine Botella had a very hard match, dropping the initial set, but finally clinching the win by a very tight score of 4-6 6-1 6-4. With the overall match already decided in favor o EC, the Junior, Claudia Morris won in the third set super tie break, 10-7, after winning the first set by 6-0 and dropping the second by 7-5. Springfield earned not only one point in doubles but also captured two additional points in singles as well at #2 and #5.
With the win, the lady lions move to 4-10 in the season and now they travel to another conference match at Belmont Abbey College (5-11) followed by a NCAA D-I opponent, University of North Carolina – Central.
