Sunday, April 03, 2016:: The Emmanuel College Women's Triathlon Team competed in the Early Bird Triathlon Collegiate Invitational at the UGA Ramsey Center in Athens, GA.
Our Ladies had a great day, commented Head Coach, Allen Gilchrest; "The ladies team finished 1st overall in the female team standings, Senior Emma Tamblyn finishing 1st overall in the collegiate female division, and our Men & Women combining to finish 3rd overall in the combined team scores. What a blessing, to see our athletes shine for Christ on such a huge stage!"
The Sprint distance Triathlon consisted of a 400 Meter Swim, 20K Bike, 5K Run. Six teams competed in the event. Georgia Tech, Clemson University, University of Georgia, University of Alabama, Auburn University, and Emmanuel College as the only non-Div. I school.
Emma Tamblyn (Sr.) finished 1st overall in the collegiate female division, with a winning time of 1:12.52. Emma had the fastest female run of the day, 21:11 for the 5k to solidify her top of the podium finish. Savannah Gratz (Sr.) finished 10th in 1:16:16, Junior Laura Gonzalez finished 13th in 1:21.18, Freshmen Sarita Duarte finished 15th in 1:24:20, and Junior Paisley Whitaker finished 22nd in 1:33:03.
This event was a Southeast Regional Conference qualifier for the 2016 Triathlon Collegiate National Championships being held at Clemson University later this month. All 5 lady Lions qualified and will compete at the National Championships on Saturday, April 23rd, 2016. This event will consist of the Olympic distance triathlon (1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run).
