Misenheimer, N.C.- The Emmanuel Women's Basketball Team traveled to play against the Pfeiffer Falcons tonight. The final score of the game was 74-67 and the top scorers for tonight's game were Elise Coberly and Timia Reynolds.
Elise Coberly began the first quarter with a made jump shot and she put the first points of the game up on the board. The ladies were off to a quick start with shots from Timia Reynolds, Avery Scarbrough, and Elise Coberly. Elise Coberly put up her first 3-pointer of the game. Lochlain Corliss came around and stole the ball form the Falcons to put up two points on the board. Mikayla Trombley put up her first 3-pointer of the game followed by a layup by Timia Reynolds. The Lions were up 20-17 and Timia Reynolds increased that lead by two points with a layup. The Falcons ended up making a small comeback and would end up tying the game up 22-22 to end the first quarter.
Just like the first quarter, Elise Coberly started out the second quarter putting up the first two points on the score board. Genesis Jones made her first 3-pointer of the game and then Taylor Dealsbour was fouled. She made one of her free throws to add one point to the board. Sydney Nash would follow and complete her first 3-pointer of the game. The Lions continued to be in the lead after that with a score of 31-29. Elise Coberly scored the last two points of the half for the Lady Lions. The Falcons retook the lead with the final score at halftime being 33-35.
The third quarter started out with a foul by the Falcons against Mikayla Trombley. She shot and made her two free throws. Elise Coberly was next to be fouled and made one of her free throws. She then turned around to make a jump shot to tie the game 38-38. Elise Coberly put up her second 3-pointer of the game to retake the lead from the Falcons. The lead went between the two teams, but Timia Reynolds broke the Lady Lions away with her first 3-pointer of the game. The score was now 51-48 and Timia Reynolds came right back around with her second 3-pointer of the game. With five seconds left, Sydney Nash was fouled and made both of her free throws. The third quarter ended with the Lady Lions leading carrying a final score of 58-52.
The Lady Lions started out the fourth quarter by being fouled. Taylor Delasbour was fouled twice by the Falcons and would make three of her four free throws. Avery Scarbrough made a jump shot to increase the Lady Lions lead up to 63-55. Elise Coberly made a jump shot, but the Falcons scored enough to tie up with the Lady Lions. Lochlain Corliss score the last two points for the Lady Lions, but the Falcons pulled out the win. The final score of the game was 67-74.
The Lady Lions now hold an overall record of 5-8, with a conference record of 4-2. They will play at home on Thursday Jan. 19th against Converse. That game will begin at 2:00 P.M.
