Belmont, N.C.- The Emmanuel Lady Lions took on Belmont Abbey in a conference game. The ladies were not able to pull out a win, but played a great game. The Lady Lions lost with a final score of 85-81. The top scorers of the game today were Elise Coberly and Timia Reynolds.
The first quarter started out with shots by Belmont back-to-back. Elise Coberly put up the first two points for the Lady Lions. She was followed closely by Timia Reynolds. The Ladies were down 4-6 and Elise Coberly came through with her first two 3-pointers of the game. Timia Reynolds contributed five points to the board as well. Taylor Delasbour made the next 3-pointer and was followed by Timia Reynolds with her first 3-pointer of the game. The ladies were now up 20-15 when Mikayla Trombley scored her first 3-pointer of the game. The first quarter ended with Taylor Deslasbour landing a jump shot making the final score 25-15.
The second quarter started out with Belmont trying to make a comeback. Taylor Delasbour tried to stop that when she added three points to the board. Ashlyn Loudermilk put up two points which allowed the ladies to keep an 11-point lead. Genesis Jones made a jump shot. Elise Coberly came through with a defensive rebound and was fouled. She made both of her free throws, which brought the ladies back up to a 10-point lead. Sydney Nash made her first 3-pointer of the game. Timia Reynolds and Avery Scarbrough both made a jump shot. Lochlain Corliss followed and put up her first 3-pointer of the game. Avery Scarbrough ended the first half with a jump shot bringing the final score to 46-35.
Elise Coberly put up the first points in the second half with a layup. Avery Scarbrough followed with a layup of her own. Mikayla Trombley made her second 3-pointer of the night. Timia Reynolds made another layup to add two points to the board. Then, Elise Coberly scored her third 3-pointer of the game. Lochlain Corliss made a defensive rebound and passed to Timia Reynolds who made a jump shot. The Lions were up by eight points, but the lead would just increase from there with two shots made by Elise Coberly and Ashlyn Loudermilk. Genesis Jones ended the third quarter with her first 3-pointer of the game. The ladies were now up 67-57.
The fourth quarter of the game started out slow for the ladies as Belmont pulled off a comeback. Genesis Jones put up the first two points of the quarter bringing the ladies up 69-66. Belmont came back again and were only trailing by one point. Elise Coberly extended the lead by two points with a layup, but Belmont just came back again. Belmont then took over the lead, but Lochlain Corliss tied the game up 74-74, with her second 3-pointer of the game. Avery Scarbrough and Mikayla Trombley tied the game up at separate times. The ladies werenow by four points, when Elise Coberly made her fourth 3-pointer of the night and the ladies were only down by one point. The Lions fouled Belmont allowing them to score the final three points of the game. The game ended with a final score of 81-85.
The Lady Lions put up a fight tonight, but now hold an overall record of 4-5, with a conference record of 3-3. The Lady Lions will be back on campus to play against North Greenville on Friday Jan. 6th. This game will begin at 5:30 P.M.
