Softball Captures South Region Championship!

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College Lady Lions Softball Team are the 2018 NCCAA South Region Champions after sweeping Warner University in back-to-back games on Saturday.

Heading into the Regional Tournament, the National seedings were already determined, with Warner University seeded at #1 and Emmanuel seeded at #5. The Lions didn't let the rankings deter their mission, as they prevented any runs from the Royals and won both games 2-0.

In the bottom of the 4th in game #1, Becky Collins got things started with a single to right center. Mary Baxter stepped up to the plate next and singled to shortstop, advancing Collins to second. With 2 outs on the inning, Morgan Franklin kept the action going with a big hit to right field, bringing in two runners.

Pitcher Erin Harden continued bringing the heat and finished the game without allowing any hits. The Lions took game #1 2-0.

In game #2 the Royals managed to get off 6 hits. In the bottom of the first, Warner was in scoring territory with bases loaded and only 1 out. The following play saw the Lions with a double play to end the inning and prevent any runs.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the 7th with the Lions at bat. Isabelle Petty singled down the left line, followed by two outs. Brianna Morgan walked next, advancing Petty to second. Noelle Petty then doubled down the line bringing in two runners. The Lions finished off the bottom of the 7th with 3 consecutive outs.

Emmanuel took game #2 2-0.

"I couldn't be more proud of our kids and how consistently they fought all year long." Said Head Coach Brock Radaker. "To be South Region Champions and beat a very good softball team like Warner is a testament to how much our players have grown together over the season. Now we head to Nationals and will continue to try and follow the same formula, good pitching, solid defense, and some timely hitting. One thing's for sure, this coaching staff is having a blast coaching this group and these players truly care about each other, so we all want our run at Nationals to last as long as possible."

Coach Radaker took the reigns back in September and led the team to a Region Championship in just his first year as head coach.

The softball team will continue their post season play at the 2018 NCCAA Softball World Series this week in Botetourt, Virginia. Emmanuel takes on #2 Judson University on Wednesday, May 16th at 12pm, then #8 Belhaven University the same day at 4:30pm.
