JACKSON, MS. - The Emmanuel College Cross Country Team finished off their year with a run towards the NCCAA National Championship at Choctaw Trails. After a great regular season, the Lions had a solid performance at the Belhaven University hosted meet.
On the men's side, Jacob Burgamy was the top performer for the Lions who finished 3rd place overall with a time of 25:41. Other top performers were Jake Morgan who took 38th, Juwan Lamar who took 39th, and DaMonte Ward who finished 40th. Rounding out the top 5 for the Lions was William Boomer who finished 64th. The men finished 7th place overall as a team. The National Champion on the men's side came from Biola with a time of 25:27.
On the women's side, Makayla Hewell had another stellar performance. Finishing with a time of 18:07, Hewell finished 5th place overall and became the first female Cross Country All-American to come out of Emmanuel College. The women's team finished 10th place overall and the National Champion came from Cederville with a time of 17:28.
Coach Hilley had the following to say about the team, "The men ran really well on the second half of the course and were able to close out really well. They had a great season and showed tremendous effort. We're very proud of the team and are excited that this young team has such a bright future ahead of them."
When asked about Makayla's performance, Coach Hall said, "There's so much to say about Makayla, she's accomplished so much over these years and has made history for Emmanuel Cross Country. She's stepped up to lead these girls in the right way and we couldn't be more proud."
