In only the second meet of the season, personal bests are already being crushed for the Men's Cross Country team. The 5k course under the lights, with the crowds that came out to support, created an electric atmosphere for the athletes. The temperature was fantastic for running fast times. For the men who typically run 8,000 meter races, this was a treat to see what they could run for a 5k in cross country.
The race got out to a blistering pace before settling down and the field of runners began to break into packs. Sophomore Jacob Burgamy put himself in the front pack, followed closely by freshmen teammates Jake Morgan and Ethan Hargrove. Burgamy worked his way into fourth place, finishing in a new personal best time of 15:01. Morgan and Hargrove ran as superb teammates and helped one another towards the finish line, smashing their previous bests from high school by nearly a minute. Morgan crossed the line in 15:34 and Hargrove was right behind in 15:35. Junior Juwan Lamar and Sophomore DaMonte Ward rounded out the top five runners finishing in 16:16 and 16:33 respectively.
"Nearly the entire men's team ran lifetime personal bests tonight. We are extremely pleased with the work these guys have been putting in and look forward to building a very strong unit this season, that carries over in years to come. We want to continue to train smart and honor Christ with the gifts He has given us," said Coach Hall.
