Men’s Volleyball Finds Redemption Against Coker

Men’s Volleyball Finds Redemption Against Coker

Franklin Springs, GA – In their previous match, the Lions fell to the talented Coker College Cobras in three straight sets. A victory against them proved to be a huge win for the Lions as they are wrapping up their season.

As set one got underway, Emmanuel had a much better start than their previous match. Both teams had an identical number of kills and kept it at a competitive pace. The Lions, however, were unable to finish and Coker took set one, 25-23.

After getting refocused for their second set, the Lions showed their heart as both teams battled it out way past the 25 points needed to win. As they were approaching the end of the set, Emmanuel was able to set themselves up for match point, but the Cobras would fight back to have a match point of their own. Without being discouraged, Emmanuel fought it out until the end and claimed the second set victory 31-29.

With momentum on their side, the Lions rolled through set three with confidence and a sense of pride and closed out another set 25-22. In a critical fourth set, Coker showed their skill and had a dominant performance at the net, with 16 kills compared to the Lions 9. The Cobras closed out set four 25-16 and forced the match to the fifth and final set.

With everything on the line, Emmanuel gave their best effort to finish out the match. The Lions pulled ahead, but after a five-point run, the Cobras came right back and eventually took the lead. With a lot of pressure at the net, the Lions forced the Cobras to some attacking errors and finally took the victory 15-13.

When asked about the big victory, Head Coach Chad Nelson had this to say, "I am very proud of the way these young men came to play tonight!  Coker has a couple very talented players and we knew it was going to take a TEAM effort to get it done and that's exactly what we did!  Everyone contributed to this victory."

With the last game of the season coming up next, this was a huge boost for the Lions, especially the seniors as they head into the final game of their collegiate careers. Coach Nelson adds, "Having six graduating seniors we've talked a lot this year about what type of legacy this group wants to leave for years to come and tonight was a great indicator of the future of this program!"

This victory puts the Lions at 10-13 overall and 6-12 in conference as they head into their final match of the season. The Lions will face Rust College on Friday, April 8th at 7:00PM. Please come out and support the seniors during their Senior Night performance for Men's Volleyball, as they will be honored for their accomplishments over their collegiate careers.
