Greenville, SC - The men's Volleyball team faced some challenges towards the beginning of the season, but the newly refocused team is seeing big results. After previously losing to North Greenville in 3 sets at home, the Lions took to the road to avenge their previous match.
Set one seemed like a continuation of their first match, as the Crusaders cruised to a 25-16 victory, but the Lions weren't finished.
In set two things began to look up for Emmanuel as they fought point for point. No team appeared to have an advantage as they both rolled past the 25-point mark. It wasn't until 6 points later that the Lions were able to finally put away the second set with a kill from Gilberto Cervantes followed by an attacking error from NGU.
From set three and on it was all the Lions. The momentum from the high intensity second set carried on for Emmanuel into set three. At 16-15, the Lions exploded with a string of kills to end the set 25-18. In the final set, the Lions showed another dominant performance with 16 kills compared to the Crusaders 6. The Lions finished off the match 15-25, 31-29, 25-18, 25-19.
The Lions were led by Jordan Funk with 14 kills, followed by Gilberto Cervantes with 13 kills. This victory puts the Lions at 9-10 overall and 6-9 in conference.
The next match for the Lions will be on the road against Erskine College Thursday, March 31st at 7:00PM.
