Gaffney, SC – For the first time in program history, the EC men's volleyball team took down Limestone in three straight sets. In their previous meeting this season, the Saints defeated the Lions 3-0.
Set one gave the Lions the momentum they needed to make it a three set match. The Lions had 5 more kills than the Saints, and while they also had more errors, this would be the last set that would happen. EC takes the first set 25-21.
Both teams were very evenly matched in set two, with the biggest margin no more than 3 points. At 23-23, the Lions capitalized with back to back blocks from Jordan Funk and Steven Peruyero, allowing them to pull away and close out the set 25-23.
In the final set the Lions were down nearly the entire time. It wasn't until a 4 point run, consisting of Limestone attacking errors, allowed the Lions to finally catch up and take the lead. From there EC would set up for the game point and take the victory with a kill from Steven Peruyero.
The Lions were led by Alex Barbosa with 10 kills. This win puts Emmanuel at 8-9 overall and 5-9 in conference. The men will resume action Saturday, March 19 at Coker College. The first serve is set for 2:00PM.
