Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Tennis Team hosted Barton College today to continue their conference competition this Spring.
The EC Team the doubles matches a bit slow on courts #1 and #2, but the duo formed by Alcacer / Romero showed a great communication on court with several points won at the net as well to grab the sole doubles points for EC today by a quick 8-0.
At the start of singles Emmanuel was a point behind on the overall scoreboard, but not for too long. On court #2, the freshman, Noah Johansen found his best set of strokes and with massive returns during crucial moments and deep low slices across the court, the Lion was able to tie everything with a solid 6-1 6-1 win. On court #4 the senior Lucas Pereira was looking for better rhythm after his doubles match today and he did not disappoint his team. After dropping the first set, Pereira found a second wind to start playing a better level to overcome his foe and take the match to a third and decisive set. With a lot more experience and patience at the crucial moments Lucas earned a break to jump 4-1 in the set, but his opponent fought back to a 4-3. After long rallies and well-constructed points from both sides, Lucas finally gave Emmanuel a third point by 1-6 6-1 6-3. In the meantime, on court #6, Enrique Alcacer was in the middle of long rallies with his opponent. The match was favoring the home player, especially after winning the first set, but the Bulldog did not give up and saved a few match points before taking the match to a third set. Alcacer felt the momentum shifting to Barton, but he quickly raised his level and with a solid mindset, he earned a service break to get a 4-3 lead. In a very tense game, Enrique held the serve before breaking his opponent's serve one more time to get the win and a fourth point for EC by 6-3 6-7 6-3. Lastly, on court #1, the freshman, Tom Jarry did get a great start and opened the match 3-0, but after a series of unforced errors, he saw the Bulldog grabbing the first set by 6-4. The strategy of counter attacking clearly worked with the Lion quickly earning a 3-set victory by 4-6 6-1 6-2 to give Emmanuel College the clinch.
This marked the 2nd victory for the Lions Tennis Team in Conference Play this Season!
