Lions Face New Challenges on Day Two at PTC

Sumter, SC - The Lions opened the second day at the Palmetto Tennis Center at 8AM. The sophomore, Juan Carlos Romero, had a rough day on the courts, making a series of unforced errors early in the rallies, which led to a defeat by Mt. Olive's Armando Ferreira (6-2), (6-2). Playing next was Jorge Canadas against Lennard Neumann from King. The Lion dropped the match for a final score of (6-1), (6-3). Tom Jarry, the freshman, was facing Zachary Blythe from Belmont Abbey, but Blythe forfeited the match due to injury. Jarry went to the next round facing Carlos Nolasco from Belmont Abbey. Jarry dominated the match by moving the opponent around the court, especially on the forehand side, followed by fast approaches to the net to finish the match by (6-3), (6-4). Enrique Alcacer faced Sherzod Akramov from Mt. Olive. After dropping a close first set, Alcacer battled to win the second set and take the match to a super tie-breaker. Alcacer dropped the first few points, but rallied back to (7-8) before missing a down-the-line forehand that would have tied the match, followed by a double fault, leading to a final score of (7-5), (3-6), (10-8). The Trojan went ahead to take down the senior Lucas Pereira (7-6 [7-5]), (5-0) Inj. Mason White won his first match of the day against Grant Robinson from North Greenville (6-2), (6-2). In the next round, White faced Juan Arbelaez from Mt. Olive. Arbelaez proved to be the stronger opponent, taking the match (6-2), (6-4). Joshua Davis, the freshman, played Noah Baker from King. Davis dropped the first set, but fought back in the second set. Eventually, Baker closed the match with a final score of (6-1), (7-5). Edward Adams played Mike Nguyen from Belmont Abbey. Nguyen closed the match (6-0), (6-0). Micheal Wright faced Liam Buckley from Erskine. Buckley quickly dispatched the Lion (6-1), (6-0). 

 

The EC Men's Tennis Team will be back in action at 8AM on Sunday for the final rounds of the tournament.
