Brevard, NC – The Emmanuel College Lions Tennis Team traveled to the home of the Brevard College Tornados for another NCAA Regional Match.
The start of the dual match was marked by a strong wind that gave major issues to both teams. The first point was taken by the home team at #1 doubles composed by Pereira/Anglin. After a very strong start the #2 doubles, Alcacer/Romero, saw their opponents to gain some momentum earning but the Lions were able to close the match by 8-5. At the same time our #3 duo, Canadas/Watteeuw, continue their great season for another solid win by 8-4.
With the goal of capturing at least 3 more points in singles play, the EC Tennis Team kicked off with a strong play by the hands of Enrique Alcacer at #4 with a great win by 6-2 6-2. The Lions continue to handle the situation extremely well by capturing wins at #2, with Jorge Canadas, by 6-3 6-3, and #5 Guillaume Watteeuw, by 6-4 6-1.
The match was already clinched by the Lions but that did not stop them from getting 2 extra points. First, from the freshman, Dustin Dodson, who came back from a set down and a break behind in the second set. Dodson fought back and faced a 7-5 deficit in the deciding super tie-breaker before closing the match by 2-6 6-3 10-8. At #3 singles, Lucas Pereira had a tough and long match that was decided at the very last moment. The Junior from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, played a tense Super tie-breaker and even after dropping a couple of match points, he was able to sneak a win by 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 13-11.
Coming up next, the Lions will now travel to North Greenville for their 5th conference match of the season. First serve is scheduled for 2PM!
