Misenheimer, N.C. – The Emmanuel College men's lacrosse team hit the road to open up the 2019 season against Pfeiffer University, where they fell 14-9.
It was a slow start offensively for both teams, as the first goal was not scored during the first seven minutes of play. Lance Olson would start things off netting his first of the game, followed by Allan Velasquez giving the Lions a 2-0 lead. A late goal from the Falcons would send the teams into the first break at 2-1.
The contest would go back and forth through the second quarter with each team scoring two. With just under five minutes before halftime, Matthew Mitchell would gather his second goal, as would Olson pushing the Lions ahead 6-3. As the clocked ticked away toward the halftime buzzer, the Falcons would claim another to put the score to 6-4.
The third quarter was one for Pfeiffer as they collected three more goals to go ahead 7-6. Olson would finish out his hat trick to tie the game up at seven heading into the final quarter.
Momentum favored the Falcons heading into the fourth as they scored six straight. Mitchell and Velasquez would each find the net once more to close the gap to 13-9. A final goal for the Falcons would end the game 14-9 in favor of Pfeiffer.
Defensively, Emmanuel showed promise as the Lions stopped three of the six man-up attempts for the Falcons, and Ethan Brundage gathered 13 saves.
