Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Lacrosse team officially opened up their 2017 season with a game against Brevard College. This is the Lions first official game being led by head coach Bert Severns. The Lions played a competitive first half but the second half and the final score favored Brevard.
The Lions came out swinging in this duel against the Tornados, scoring their first goal just 2:30 into the first quarter. Another goal came for the Lions just 26 seconds later. Brevard answered with a goal 5 minutes later, which the Lions responded to with a goal with 6:30 left in the period. Brevard then went on to score three unanswered goals to close out the first period.
Senior Austin Brundage headed up the Lions offensive front with an impressive 7 goals out of 10 shots. The remaining offensive points were put up by Sophomore Cam Free (2 goals & 1 assist), Junior Tyler Machado (1 goal & 1 assist), Freshman Cameron Bent (1 goal & 1 assist), Junior Matt Casey (1 goal), and Senior Tanner Smith (1 goal). The Lions totaled an impressive 13 goals against the Tornados.
Defensively for the Lions Roman Tavani caused 3 turnovers, while Tyler Machado had 3 groundballs. The Lions combined effort totaled 20 groundballs, 14 faceoffs won, and 21 caused turnovers. In the goal for the entire 60 minutes, Freshman Luke Harris had 45 shots taken on him and had 9 saves, limiting the Tornados to 22 goals.
