HICKORY, N.C. - The Emmanuel College men's basketball team dropped their season opener to Queens University on Friday night. Despite the Lions putting up twelve more shots than their opponent, they struggled to convert with a 38.7% field goal percentage.
How it happened:
The Royals grabbed a commanding lead in the first half thanks to their shooting consistency. The Royals went six for ten at the three-point line and put up sixteen points from their bench alone. The Lions were ineffective with their shots and found themselves facing an 18 point deficit.
Sophomore Brandon Simpson stepped up for the Lions in the second half, putting up 21 points. While their shooting percentage went up, they still couldn't convert their three-point attempts. Despite outscoring the Royals 42 to 41 in the second half, Emmanuel fell 85-68.
Simpson led the Lions with 26 points, while Senior Kendrick Colvin had 5 assists and 7 rebounds.
The Lions will continue action tomorrow, November 10th when they take on host school Lenoir-Ryhne at 5:30pm.
