MOUNT OLIVE, Nc – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball Lions continued their win streak defeating Mount Olive, 77-60, after taking a loss at their first match up earlier in the season that ended in double overtime.
Assistant Coach, Graham Maxwell, had a few comments on how the game went. He stated, "It was a tough grind it out game against a very good Mount Olive team. The game was a collective team effort and we made big plays down the stretch when we needed to. Our guys were locked in and it feels good to continue to get better this time of year."
Kendrick Colvin led the Lions as he has the past few games with 17-points and 9-rebounds.
If there was one thing that Mount Olive was known for tonight it was fouls. Within the first minute of the game Kendrick Colvin put up two free throws followed by a layup. Elijah Robinson made back-to-back shots. Austin Samuel came off the bench to gain two free throws. The Lions were down 18-23 pulling a comeback to tie the game 25-25. Kendrick Colvin made a layup to push the Lions ahead 25-29. The half ended with a 3-pointer from Colton Collins and a free throw from Kurtis Robinson. The Lions walked into halftime up, 34-30.
Austin Greene had a quick start to the second half which started the Lions 7-point lead. The Lions pushed forward being up 45-35 after a layup from Kurtis Robinson. After a few turnovers by the Lions, the Trojans made up those ten points to only be down by 1 point. Kendrick Colvin came out with a steal against the Trojans taking the ball down court for a dunk for a turning point in the second half. The rest of the half was spent at the free throw line for the Lions sinking 16 shots. Austin Samuel would end the game for the Lions with a 3-pointer as the clock ran down.
The Lions now hold an overall record of 15-9, with a conference record of 9-5. The Lions have three home games left in the season starting Saturday, February 17th at 4:00 PM against Southern Wesleyan.
