Men's Basketball Kicks off Season Against North Georgia

MILLEDGEVILLE, GA. - The Emmanuel College Men's Basketball Team kicked off their season with a game against North Georgia at the Bobcat Crossover Classic hosted by Georgia College. Although the Lions came up short in the end, they put up an impressive fight, overcoming an 11 point deficit and forcing the Night Hawks into overtime.

In a very exciting season opener, it appeared to be all North Georgia in the beginning. The Night Hawks went on a run, leading Emmanuel by 15 points midway through the half. With 8 minutes remaining, the Lions turned on their game and put up 6 successful 3-pointers, including 2 from Nathan Williams (#25) in the final minute. Emmanuel was able to use that run to overcome their deficit and finish the first half with a 36-32 lead.

After half time, the teams had a constant back and forth battle all the way into the final stretch. With just under 5 minutes left in the game, the Night Hawks began to pull away, creating an 11 point gap. A layup and 3-pointer from Brandon Simpson (#4) tightened the gap and gave Emmanuel some momentum. Kurtis Robinson (#2) put up a couple more points then Elijah Robinson (#11) sunk a three to bring the score to 80-81. North Georgia's Tyler Dominy returned the favor with a three pointer of his own.

With 47 seconds left on the clock, Kurtis Robinson forced a turnover to setup Elijah Robinson with a critical game tying layup. UNG would have another attempt with 5 seconds left to take the game, but came up short. At 84-84, Emmanuel forced Georgia College into overtime.

In overtime the Night Hawks grabbed an early lead and were able to hold on for the remainder of the game. NGU had several successful drives and Emmanuel was unable to come back. NGU took the win with a score of 102-92.

The Lions were led by Elijah Robinson with 25 points and Kurtis Robinson with 24 points. The men will continue action tomorrow at 3:30PM against tournament host Georgia College.
