Franklin Springs, Ga- The Emmanuel Men's Basketball Team won against the Lees-McRae Bobcats in a very close game with the final score being 73-74. We saw the most points put up by Colvin, Lillie, and McClung.
The first half of the game started out with a foul by Zach Lillie. Luckily, the Bobcats only made one free throw, so when Colton Collins scored his first 3-pointer of the night the Lions gained the lead. The Lions played good defense against the Bobcats trying to regain their lead. Kendrick Colvin scored his first points of the game and was followed by Trevor Jain. The Lions were down 11-7 when Colton Collins made a jump shot and a layup to tie the score 11-11. Derek Vandiver entered the game and in less than a minute scored his first 3-pointer of the night. Austin Greene followed with a layup and Zach Lillie made two free throws due to a foul by the Bobcats. The Lions were now up 14-18 and they weren't done there. Kendrick Colvin scored another two points and Trevor Jain made his first 3-pointer of the night. The Lions soon were up with a 13-point lead after a shot by Colton Collins, a 3-pointer from Zach Lillie, and a layup from Zach Vess. Derek Vandiver was fouled and could add a point to the board, the Lions now up 26-33. Kendrick Colvin scored the final layup of the half. The first half ended with the Lions up 28-35.
The second half started out with a foul by the Bobcats allowing Colton Collins to score the first points of the half. The Lions were up by five points when the Bobcats gained the lead. Kendrick Colvin tied the game up with a free throw and then came back to put the Lions in the lead with his first dunk of the night. The Bobcats tied the game back up 40-40. Zach Lillie came through with a jump shot and then Kendrick Colvin blocked a shot by the Bobcats and got the rebound which allowed Trevor Jain to make his second 3-pointer of the night. The game was close the rest of the night as the Lions and the Bobcats fought for the lead. The Bobcats started fouling back to back allowing Kendrick Colvin, Emerson McClung, and Austin Greene to make free throws bringing the score to 50-52. The Bobcats tied the score up, which didn't last for long when Derek Vandiver put up his second 3-pointer of the night. The Bobcats continued to foul and the Lions kept putting up free throw points. The Lions were down by two when Austin Greene made a layup to tie the game. With one second left, Emerson McClung stole the ball from the Bobcats and was fouled on his way to the basket. Emerson McClung was given two free throw shots. When he missed his first one you could hear the gasp from the crowd, but the fans still cheered him on. Emerson McClung shot and he scored the final point in the game. The fans roared as the Bobcats threw the ball from half court hoping it would go in, but it didn't. The Lions had a victory on their hands against the Bobcats with the final score being 73-74.
The Lions now hold a record of 4-3 with a conference record of 2-0. The Emmanuel Men's Basketball Team will play on Saturday December 3rd away against Limestone College. The game will begin at 7:30 P.M.
