NCAA National Championships - Finals Day 1

Indianapolis, Ind.---- Emmanuel College sophomore Joao Santos earned EC men's swimming first ever individual honorable mention All-American honors on the first night of the 2019 NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI. Santos finished 12th place in the finals of the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.07.

Next, the 200 medley relay (Thiago Rosa, Joao Santos, Rafael Mendes, Alex Sobers) finished 11th in 1:28.24 to earn EC men's swimming first ever relay honorable mention All-American honors, in the consolation finals.

This relay was Senior Captain Rafael Mendes final collegiate swim. He finished with a personal best fly split of 21.73 and a new EC school relay record.

Five Emmanuel College swimming student-athletes are competing on the big stage March 13-16. After day one, The Lions are in 17th place with 16.5 points. The men return to the pool Thursday morning at 10 a.m. for day two preliminaries. GO LIONS!
