Charlotte, NC - - The 2018-19 Conference Carolinas Women's Swimming Championship concluded on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte, N.C. Emmanuel College captured the women's swimming championship with a team score of 740 points.
The Lady Lions finished 1st in 3 out of 6 events in final night, earning 3 individual conference champions, 6 conference runner ups, to earn the conference title.
In the 1650 free, Senior Captain Juana Mafla finished 1st in her final collegiate swim (18:15.69)
In the 200 back, Anna Calka finished 2nd (2:07.85), Mateja Svonja finished 4th (2:08.85), Allison Hunter finished 5th (2:10.33) and Lydia Scharff finished 9th (2:17.23)
In the 100 free, Karolina Ostojska finished 2nd (52.54) and Carmen Arnold finished 6th (55.31)
In the 200 breast, Julia Simioni finished 1st (2:25.03) in EC school record time. Senior Captain Juliana Ribeiro finished 11th (2:35.52), Senior Captain Sara Duarte finished 13th (2:41.51) and Denita Pieterse finished 14th (2:41.77)
In the 200 fly, Natalie Hayes finished 1st (2:05.68) a new Conference record. Yara Bouckaert 10th (2:19.90)
In the 400 free relay, the A relay (Ostojska, Simioni, Arnold, Ribeiro) finished 2nd (3:35.93)
Head EC Swim Coach, Allen Gilchrest, commented; "15 lady Lions competed over 4 days, in 7 different sessions, in 19 different events, with a total of 65 swims. This takes a lot of dedication and focus. Our ladies worked hard this season in the pool, in the weight room, as a team, and that hard work, dedication and focus has paid off with a conference title! We give God the Glory!"
