FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - Emmanuel College Hall of Fame Inductee, James Rix, will be speaking at Royston Grove Baptist Church on Sunday, January 20th at 3:00pm.
James Rix was invited to be the Martin Luther King Jr. celebration speaker after a 50 year history with the church. As one of the first African American students to attend Emmanuel College, Royston Grove Baptist Church welcomed James with open arms to their historically black congregation, giving him a special opportunity to connect with the community during a time of racial tension.
During this time, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reached out to the pastor of Royston Grove Baptist Church, who in turn reached out to Emmanuel Head Basketball Coach Lloyd Turlington. The three of them discussed ideas to better integrate the Emmanuel student population. Words turned into action as this moment set the pace for integration afterwards.
James Rix was a special part of this time in history and looks forward to sharing his Emmanuel College experience and what it means to him as a person.
All are encouraged to attend this special celebration at Royston Grove Baptist Church on Sunday, January 20th at 3:00pm.
Royston Grove is located at 137 Baker St. Royston, Georgia.
