TRIATHLON COLLEGIATE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018

Tuscaloosa, AL – 2 members of the Emmanuel College swimming team competed in the 2018 Triathlon Collegiate National Championships, held on the campus of the University of Alabama on Saturday, April 28, 2018.

EC competed in the Olympic Distance Triathlon event. Due to high rains, the river was unsafe for competition and the swimming portion of the triathlon was canceled. The race was changes to a 5K run, 40K bike, 5K run. There were 1,133 competitors in the Olympic distance event, from 122 collegiate teams around the United States.

Freshmen, Alasdair McGhee was the top EC finisher with a time of 2 hours 27 minutes 51 seconds, finishing 588th. Sophomore, Simon Roberts finished in 2 hours 34 minutes 37 seconds, finishing 612th.  

Head Coach Allen Gilchrest commented; "This is our 4th year in a row competing at the Triathlon Collegiate National Championships! Most college swimming events last 20 seconds to 20 minutes, so for these guys to compete for over 2 hours at the national championships is a great accomplishment. I am so proud of these 2 student athletes and so thankful to God for the opportunities He has given us this season."
